Erin Jackson is one of the most inspiring crossover athletes in modern sport—a Winter Olympic champion whose journey from roller derby to the top of the speed skating world has made her the shining star of the derby community and a source of immense pride across multiple sports.
She spent years dominating inline speed skating and later became a standout roller derby athlete, known for her power, agility, and fearless racing style. When she first tried long-track speed skating in 2017, she had never skated on ice competitively—yet within months, she shocked the sports world by qualifying for the 2018 Winter Olympics after just four months of training.
Her breakthrough moment came at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, where Jackson made history by winning gold in the women’s 500-meter speed skating event. That victory made her the first Black woman ever to win an Olympic medal in long-track speed skating, cementing her place in Olympic history.
